Why Would I Need a Will?

Hi, I’m Hannah Whatley, and I’m an advisor with Rather and Kittrell.

A common question that we hear is “Why do I need a will?” It’s easy to put off; it’s not something you have to get done today, but it is critical.

For me, three specific reasons stand out as to why.

3 reasons you need a will

Designate what happens to your assets

The first is to designate what happens to your assets when you pass away. So, if you have a preference on what you want to happen, then that’s reason enough to create a will.

Avoid probate

The second reason is to avoid or minimize probate. It’s a lengthy, can be expensive, process, it’s public, and this isn’t so much for you as it is lessening the burden on whoever it is that will step up to try to make sure that your wishes are carried out.

Designate who cares for your children

The third reason that it’s critical to establish a will is if you have minor children. A will designates who cares for them when something happens to you.

So, if you want to focus on peace of mind for your family and have this conversation around legacy planning, we’re here to help at rkcapital.com.
